I noticed the sign on the “North Shore” of Colchester - TopicsExpress

I noticed the sign on the “North Shore” of Colchester announcing a new 350 acre planned community project. I found this web page explaining the project. I find it interesting how they can state “500 lakeside home sites” and “500 townhome units” and then say only “some commercial sites”. One of Norwalk’s long standing problems is our lack of commercial tax revenues. A 50-50 balance of residential to commercial tax revenues is what we should be striving for. Norwalk currently is about 90-10. This is one reason why property taxes are so high. This is also a reason why funding for roads, pools and dog parks are hard to find. This development does not seem to make much sense because it appears to be taking up a lot of prime commercial ground for residential development. Norwalk should be investing in infrastructure to attract commercial growth. Homes are fine but not without an equal balance of commercial development. Any land along 28 and the bypass should be exclusive commercial ground. Businesses need to be right out where you can see them not hidden on a lonely cul-de-sac. (homes should be there). I also have a huge concern as to what will happen to the schools because of the apparent imbalance of revenues. The school are already busting at the seams. cbre.us/o/desmoines/properties/north-shore-of-norwalk/Pages/home.aspx
