I now have more time to cover this years RA Summer Exhibition. As said in this article, it was a revelation compared to previous year shows. huffingtonpost.co.uk/victoria-sadler/summer-exhibition-2014-ro_b_5522914.html For a start, several of the sculptures were very contemporary. There was a 300x300x600 block made up of a crushed Transit van. There was a bike constructed with wheels of multiple curved metal segments. It was full-size, with no brakes and no gears. The only genuine part was a Brooks saddle. It was accompanied by a video of it being ridden on a busy London street, quite illegal of course, a piece of performance art. There were 120 photographs, several with wildly curved and extended arm edges, probably mounted on mdf. Apart from the architectural images, most were by people who would be called photographic artists. Among the names were a few I recognised: Helen Sear, Mitra Tabrizian, Richard Long, Cornelia Parker and Wolfgang Tillmans, Gillian Wearing and Tacita Dean. was delighted to see work from a series by our Contemporary Group member Caroline Silverwood Taylor (7copies sold at the time of viewing) There were also 5 videos exhibited. No photography allowed of course, and there were no mobile phones visible, visiting art students were sketching images on paper. You can see some photos in this article.
