I often defended Shelton as hitting coach because Joe would say they were following organizational philosophy. I wonder if Joe created the philosophy. A suggestion going forward is to maybe study the Royals philosophy. They are much more aggressive at the plate. Here is a quote from Royals hitting coach, Dale Sveum, We put the ball in play. Its a point of emphasis. Theres no run that can score and no runners who can move up a base without contact. One thing thats been lost in the game is how hitters and teams are satisfied with strikeouts and not understanding that you get 27 outs, and if you put 27 balls in play, you have a better chance of driving in runs.
