I often ponder the meaning of being Jewish. Is it possible to be a Jew without Judaism? In America your nationality is your country of origin. In my case USSR (Moldova technically), which makes me Russian. However in soviet Russia my nationality was Jew. And it was stamped in my passport for all to see. Being Jewish is more then religion, it is genetic. 23andme will never tell a Catholic that they are Catholic, the result might be you are Polish or you are French, but never Catholic. Some how over the period of time Jews have been singled out to stand out as a religion/culture and nationality all at once. I often wonder about this as I grapple with what it means to be a Jew in a post religious world.
