I often post on the crises besetting our world which cause such great loss of life and major setbacks to development. I spoke on the current dramatic events creating complex humanitarian emergencies in the Madeleine K. Albright Development Lecture I gave a couple of days ago - asking the question of how development initiatives could help prevent or mitigate crises and disasters. I called the lecture: Making Sense of the World We Live In: The Development Contribution. It seems to me that every major crisis on the UN Security Council agenda today relates one way or another to a development deficit. To build a world without civil wars, deaths in conflict, refugees and internally displaced people forced to free their homes, and wrecked economies and societies, it is vital to address the drivers of conflicts. This needs to be prioritised in the post-2015 development agenda, otherwise it will be very difficult to achieve a world without extreme poverty and hunger. undp.org/content/undp/en/home/presscenter/speeches/2014/08/07/helen-clark-aspen-institute-madeleine-k-albright-global-development-lecture-on-making-sense-of-the-world-we-live-in-the-development-contribution/
