I once heard someone say it takes 12 compliments to make up for - TopicsExpress

I once heard someone say it takes 12 compliments to make up for one criticism. Recently I was challenged with these words: People dont know how wonderful they are. Someone has to tell them. In marriage, that means I need to tell my spouse. Yes, its okay to tell my husband what bothers me—but I dont have to tell him a thousand times. When I cant seem to find anything to praise about him, its because Ive let unforgiveness creep in. Its time to repent. Even if I dont approve of some of the things he does, there are always many more things to appreciate. Too often Id take for granted that hes a caring father and an excellent provider and money manager. Hes an expert at fixing things, and he forgives me quickly when Ive blown it. So I try genuinely to lavish on the praise. And I thank him for taking the time to talk to me—even if the conversation wasnt as long and deep as Id wanted. These days he seeks me out for conversation, and Im delighted that many times hes eager to talk. The most exciting is when he comes to me and asks, Can we talk? Elaine Creasman
