I once lived with a young lady named Michelle ( we lived together for a year, but I never did catch her last name ). She was ( amongst many things ) a philosopher, a poet, and a profit. I must say that she enlightened me to many things in life, as I was a young bright eyed fellows when I met her. The most memorable thing , though , was not to berate a womans cooking skills. As she was deeply in love ( I believe ) she went to incredible efforts to please me. I walked in one day and she was cutting up carrots, potatoes , and celery into perfectly shaped cubes almost identical in size and shape. I looked into the pot and said something innocent like : you stupid bit@h, how damn long did you take cutting up the damn vegetables like that -- just cut them into chunks . She promptly threw the pot of vegetables at me and I didnt get any stew that night. In fact, she never cooked for me again. A few months later, I packed her stuff in eight boxes and stacked them outside of the front door and changed the locks to the apartment. I so miss Michelle -- whatever her last name might have been. There is a lesson somewhere in this : 1) when you move someone in -- ask their last name. 2) when they cook for you -- be appreciative.
