I once planted carrots. In my excitement to see the harvest, I pulled the fledgling plants from the ground to check their progress on several occasions and then would quickly replant them when finding them still immature. Sadly, the poor little carrots didn’t have a chance under the care of someone who hadn’t decided between being a gardener or an analyst. Needless to say, the carrot crop was a bust; but it taught me something very important. Each day, every week, year upon year, we make myriad decisions. We quickly learn that making good decisions takes practice. Much like the experience I gained from my carrot path, we learn from our mistakes. Some decisions may not produce fruit for years and even decades. Yet, we must remain unchangeable in our resolve to see them through if we expect to reap the reward at harvest time. Don’t short change your life by vacillating. Make a decision… a quality decision. Although you may be tempted to side-step the discomfort of delayed gratification or grow impatient for your piece of the pie, remember the carrots! Plant your seed… your “forever decision”… and you will both grow.
