I once told my friend Cat that Rick Springfield made one of the best CDs of 2012 and I still stand by that statement. I know its never been cool to like Rick Springfield, and in recent years his un-cool-ness has made him the epitome of cool in the eyes of Dave Grohl and countless others in the music business. Rick has stood the test of time and yes, he has released some very questionable pop music in his career, but his last 5 or 6 albums have eclipsed his early pop star image and secured his contribution as one of rocks catchiest songwriters as well as a lyricist of great depth and sincerity. In fact, if you are a fan of the Foo Fighters, you can hear a lot of Ricks influence in their blend of pop rock with hooks that dig deep and guitar lines that are unrelenting in their capacity to stick in your head on infinite repeat. Here is a track I particularly like on his most recent (and excellent) effort, Songs For The End Of The World called My Last Heartbeat.
