I only experience one freight from Pakse to Vientiane by Lao Airlines last year during the flooding season. The airport is small and equipments looks old. Typhoon do not hit Laos often before 2008. The last typhoon hit Laos was 1st Oct. I get warning from a friend who work in UNDP so I change my freight from Luang Prabang to Vientiane 1 day later. Finally the typhoon was weaken by the mountain between Vietnam and Laos from 175km/h to 55km/h and cause no damage to Vientiane. Lucky ! When Typhoon Nari hit Pakse yesterday was not the same case. There is no tall mountain between south of Laos and Vietnam so the Typhoon Nari was still strong and carry a lot of rain to Pakse. One of my friend Tot went to Pakse by car after the frieght was cancelled yesterday noon time. She is lucky and survive. The freight from Vientiane to Pakse 16:00 was not cancelled was crashed. :(
