I paddle slowly, my oar slicing through the tranquil waters of the Ottawa River. I look around and take in the breath-taking beauty of the unspoiled shoreline, and enjoy the last few moments of serenity. My heart starts to beat faster as I hear the faraway roar of the upcoming rapids...what have I got myself into? The guide at the back of our raft explains which way to swim if we fall out and how to avoid the ragged rocks that can rip our flesh or entrap our limbs underwater, and I immediately regret my choice of 6 person sport rafting on my second day at River Run, but there is no turning back... The first boat approaches and is immediately flipped upside down, with no regard for its terrified passengers and sends them into the swirling rapids. They appear wide eyed and bobbing and are pulled safely back into the raft laughing and smiling. Our guide announces it is our turn..."Easy forward" he yells, and then, "Hard forward!" We paddle for our lives and are actually surfing in the rapid in mid-air! Wow! It is awesome! We are dunked under time and time again, and are hooting and hollering in triumph. Oh what fun!!! We ham it up for the camera, and descend the rapid to pull around to ride it again...
