I post this because it actually seems quite explanatory. Educated (using college degree or more to mean educated) people tend to want to marry other educated people. Educated couples make more money. We are seeing fewer educated/uneducated mixed couples which means society is separating out into the wealthy educated couples and the poorer uneducated couples (and of course the growing contingent of the unmarried), creating an increasingly bimodal distribution. Less middle ground now than there used to be, since broader swaths of the population are becoming educated. Thats a simplified view of the findings.
