I post this here partly out of amusement, but mostly as a challenge to the assertion of choice. This article addresses choice in two ways. Firstly, if the public embraces non-GMO foods, voluntary non-GMO labels may start to be seen by the virtue-seeking public as cheaper virtue than organics. This could possibly hit the organic market very hard. Elimination of organics reduces consumer choice. Secondly, seeing that consumers can be so confused about what is a GMO and what organic means, you have to question the very basis of the label=choice argument. A choice has to be understood to be real. If we randomly label all apples with either a triangle or a star, we havent increased consumer choice. The choice is in the understanding of the meaning of the labels. And this article seriously calls that understanding into question.
