I posted about the Chinese New Year on my main personal page and was asked a very good question.......Why is this a Wood Horse year. Trying to keep it simple, here is my answer :) There are 12 years in the Chinese zodiac cycle and each year is associated with an animal. The cycle starts with the Rat, then the order is the Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep (Goat), Monkey, Rooster, Dog an the last year is the Pig (Boar) The years are also attached to the 5 elements, earth, metal, water, wood and fire Each elements lasts for 2 years. 2 years ago we had the Water Dragon and last year was a Water Snake. This year sees the new element coming in, which is wood and the animal this year is the Horse, next year it will be the wood Sheep or Goat. Both the animal and the element affect the type of energy that the year brings. I will try to explain this as a very basic overview without much depth, for example rabbits are diplomatic and healers. An earth rabbit year means continuous hard work to make diplomacy work. A metal rabbit year would mean that sharp words and strong discipline are needed to create diplomacy but in a water year diplomacy can be achived with a softer, deeper approach. This is why our 60th birthday is our true birthday. I was born in a water rabbit year and the next time it will be a water rabbit year will be when I am age 60 When you look back over centuries at what occurred in certain years you begin to understand the energies that each year brings. I tend to look back to see how it all worked out rather than forward becaseu we all create our own destiny and make our own choices but each year offers us a tail wind or a challenge to get where we wnat to go :) x
