I posted about the history of this house on Home Street in Lawrenceville two years ago, but after its recent paint job and the removal of its aluminum awning it deserves another look. Home Street has some of the best facades in the neighborhood! The original post said: In 1890, David and Bessie Sisk were able to have this Queen Anne-influenced 7-room brick house built on Home Street in Lawrenceville on David Sisks wages as a clerk and salesman. Its unimaginable that people of average means will ever again be able to have houses built with such a degree of ornamentation; each of the double front doors, for example, is made of 63 pieces of wood. With its lovely facade, solid brick construction with limestone sills and lintels, and marbleized slate mantels, the houses total construction cost was a then-considerable $2,600. For context, the Allegheny County Courthouse and Jail had cost $2.5 million a few years earlier.
