I posted in the other posting about rescues using shock collars. This is what happened with me and my newest foster. Shes a begal mix. Because hounds dogs happen to be stubborn, or at lease this one. Her nose is just so busy!! Very food motivated. But YET to make any connection between food / clicker/ command. I have said over a millions times off Off the table, off of me (while sitting) Im not getting it through to her. I can deal with a cane corso with guarding issues, the correct behavior for when company is Place not at the front door barking and on their back legs. Im missing the boat in communicating to this pup. Shes a year old, she was left in a rental house in a crate with 9 puppies, the puppies all died. This is a BIG part of her food motivation straving. Sweet pup, no meanness in her. I just CANT put the shock collar on her. Sit and Come are the only commands she knows. She has no attention for the clicker. When I go to feed her, I put her in a sit. In order for her to eat, she has to STAY in that sit. (only a few seconds stay) I slowly move to lower her dish, if she moves, I stand back up. 3 weeks, we are still at just a few seconds. I thought I might get her attention if we tossed in a FUN command Twirl. Shell follow my hand with the treat, twirl. Just no connection to command or clicker. It is about repeating over and over, they learn. Im stumped in HOW to connect with her. This was why the rescue gave me the shock collar. I just wont use it. Im lost.
