We have Rossili Beach, one of National Geographics top 10 beaches in the world. We have more castles per square mile than any other country. What is it? Like · More · 3 hours ago Tony Lloyd Having been to over 90 countries and all 50 states, I could write a thesis on the reasons why. Mostly, 1. A poor knowledge of geography. Taught badly, understanding abysmally ! I visited a primary school teacher in Spring Texas and he introduced NE as a friend from England, knowing I wasnt. He said he only ever taught about the Island of England when in school ! 2. The news and media obsession with England. I remember seeing in films and tv series, like The Champions or the Saint or Avengers, whenever a map is shown, Scotland appears at the north, and England is written from Aberystwyth to Norwich ! 3. Lack of promotion/money, by the British Tourist offices around the World. Scottish lochs and London landmarks are their big draws ! 4. Famous Welsh people do not speak up enough. Like closet Canadians, closet Wekdh stars: Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta Jones, Ioan Gruffudd, Michael Sheen, Christian Bale, etc, never mention they arent Welsh, always bplasying Americans ir English parts. We Welsh tend to shy away from showing off but I think an effective marketing campaign could turn this around. On my last flight into Heathrow someone asked me where I was going. I replied Wales and they looked puzzled and said thats down by Cornwall right? Its ridiculous. Scotland gets the Commonwealth games, England gets the Olympics and Wales gets a NATO summit.
