I posted the following in Overheard at Brandeis (and they eventually kicked me out because they cant handle debate or something) so Im going to repost here. (Do NOT try to go to the page and harass people.) A point to ponder: I understand that many are upset with some of the racist violent comments that have been hurled at Ms. Lynch regarding her comments on Twitter. Good. You should be. You should be angry that anyone would try to harm an innocent human being. You should be angry that anyone would be okay with murdering an innocent. You should condemn it in the highest terms possible. That is unacceptable. It doesnt matter where that person is coming from. It doesnt matter the struggles they may have faced in their lives. As a person of color who has also been on the receiving end of epithets and racist insults, this personally affects me. Murder is Murder and is wrong. Racism is racism and is wrong. Theres another person who agrees with you. His name is Daniel Mael. And he happens to be my best friend. Daniel reported a story about Ms. Lynch because Ms Lynch was okay with the idea that someone murdered an innocent human being. She was okay that someone tried and succeeded in harming an innocent human being. She said she had no sympathy for them. And just like you who now finds such speech against innocents utterly repulsive, Daniel Mael also found such speech against innocents utterly repulsive, and so he reported it. If I said I had no sympathy for Ms. Lynch after she received racist death threats, would you not condemn me? Would you not campaign against people to report my fb page? Would you not ask people to unfriend me? You would and you should. So it behooves you to be philosophically consistent. By all means, stand with Ms. Lynch against racism. Against violence. Against murder. Against hatred. But if you stand with her, you must also stand with Daniel Mael. If you do anything less, you are a hypocrite and you are guilty of the selfsame thing you accuse others of doing. #IStandWithKhadijah #IStandWithMael
