I posted this on my old neighbourhood.. impossible to write briefly.. if one has a lot to say!! can I help it !! many photos of our beautiful churches in our area... are posted.. and they bring us a great joy... harmony... and some of the churches had very good music... choirs from the children studying there.. special choirs for special days.. maybe a soprano just at the organ as we had in the old santa maria addolorata for the first mass of the day.. beautiful it was... I was transported as a kid there.. and sure it formed my love of music... and the art of singing... but... one thing I will never understand is why the nuns never exposed us to this !!... when there exists so many beautiful masses in music... this being one of the greatest.. and by other great composers... and even requiems... by faure, Mozart, Verdi, etc., et.,, and the great early polyphonic masses.. by Palestrina... and we have something handed down and given for everybody.. to listen to in any way they wish... but to also go to the celebration of the mass.... and one can imagine the brain power that went into creating this... first in the head of the man who wrote it.. .and written down in notation.. (which I always find.. somehow a score to me is magic formula as it suddenly releases... creates what was on the page !) and then the musicians and the singers.. under the baton of the conductor. and all of them have worked so hard.. in rehearsals to create the music... and in the first place.. these people have worked so hard learning their art.. and they handed it all down to us.. .for everybody there.. all there.. not just for that group or this group but as a group... we were left out... why ? I would say that the nuns and the priests in our area.. did not teach it because they did not know it... I can say.. they may, some of them.. have played this in the convent, or tried to get sections sung at special lent service, but for the most part... the nuns... after all.. were girls that dedicated themselves to poverty, chastity and obedience - no comment - and they... became nursing sisters or teaching sisters or working with dyin, etc., but in giving us an education.. I would have to not give them an A, as far as music, but a D ! maybe even D minus for their lack of education.. and music appreciation... or even an F ! but.. there we go... we might have missed out then.. but we can still.. if curious.. go round and find out for ourselves... what is on youtube.. one only has to google.. masses by bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Palestrina and just have a listen to see what we like.. we might want to only listen to one section.. or whatever.. and then we might want it conducted by berstein who wrote west side story, or Toscanini, or richter, or whatever version one might find as remarkable... there are so many versions and there is not only one way to do it.. and the conductor will set the tempo.. for each phrase... and what we hear now.. is something of beauty and should we help our souls along each day.. and head out to something that leaves the day behind.. that feeds the soul.. ? we feed the body.. why not the soul. its very very important to feed the soul as we feed the body.. I would think. music can make a profound difference to our lives.. and it can give added meaning to our faith... we tap into something.... here is a sample... one has to move on to the others parts if interested... I will post here.. the next part.. part 2.. and its has such exceptional beauty... we are all capable of educating ourselves if we wish.. we have the time... no ? youtube/watch?v=IuQcCdiLJFc&index=2&list=PL56B4C089DFC07313 and this is even more glorious ! its the Gloria ! and full of joy ! start here if you like.. or with kyrie ! youtube/watch?v=QtfW0I4kN10&list=PL56B4C089DFC07313&index=3
