I posted this yesterday but it didnt appear! I will try again.....i have spent a very long time raising awareness about the palm oil issue, and the environmental disaster that it has become. I also write an info sheet about how to avoid palm oil or at least buy a certified product, anyway amongst my recommendations have been Green People. Well i have just looked at the new website and read in the FAQs your explanation about palm oil, as follows...Quote We have had several enquiries from customers who have recently read reports in the press to the effect that the natural habitat of the orang-utan is under threat from deforestation. Reports have stated that large areas of rain forest are being stripped to enable extra planting of palm trees to provide palm oil. We would like to reassure our customers that the palm oil used in Green People products is from certified organic sources in countries that do not have native orang-utans such as the Philippines and Ecuador. It is a condition of organic certification that the raw materials come from trees that are grown on long-established plantations which are managed in a sustainable way to ensure that native fauna and flora are preserved. Unquote. You disapoint me totally, who on earth wrote this?? Do they have a clue about the facts? If this wasnt so pathetic an article it would be laughable. Firstly to include the words to the effect that and reports have stated sounds dismissive, as though it may not be true, and large areas of rainforest, please read instead millions of hectares burned. The best and most ridiculous statement is ...in countries that do not have native orangutans such as the Philippines and Ecuador. This sounds as if its okay to source from these countries because there are no Orangutans!!! Absolutely disgraceful and totally insincere. Please if you are truly as ethical as you say (by buying sustainable palm oil maybe you are) have this rewritten by someone who really knows the facts. I am almost finished my revised palm oil info sheet of recommendations but i will still include Green People but with comments of disapointment. You have let yourself down.
