I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalms 139:14 “I believe that the very purpose of life is to be happy. From the very core of our being, we desire contentment. In my own limited experience I have found that the more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our own sense of well-being. Cultivating a close, warmhearted feeling for others automatically puts the mind at ease. It helps remove whatever fears or insecurities we may have and gives us the strength to cope with any obstacles we encounter. It is the principal source of success in life. Since we are not solely material creatures, it is a mistake to place all our hopes for happiness on external development alone. The key is to develop inner peace.”-Dali Lama People pontificate, Suicide is selfishness. Career churchmen like Pater go a step further and call in a cowardly assault on the living. Oafs argue this specious line for varying reason: to evade fingers of blame, to impress ones audience with ones mental fiber, to vent anger, or just because one lacks the necessary suffering to sympathize. Cowardice is nothing to do with it - suicide takes considerable courage. Japanese have the right idea. No, whats selfish is to demand another to endure an intolerable existence, just to spare families, friends, and enemies a bit of soul-searching. -David Mitchell Ive given it a decent amount of thought the last few days and would like to pick your brains. The death of anyone from a celebrity to a criminal in my opinion is always a tragedy. Now personally, as a comedian, Robin Williams was not my cup of tea but his death still hurt my heart. The cause of death points to suicide and thats what makes me question how to react, do you put this event on a pedestal and glorify how amazing this individual is? Or do you keep your mouth shut? Do you get angry that someone killed themselves? Is there a better compromise or option to respect death and also use it as an example to grow as an individual and the world? Coping with death of any sort is no easy task and we all have our fair share of experiences. I just feel theres a better way regardless of religion or beliefs that we could look to as people to 1) become a better society and 2) prevent more self inflicting deaths We all have the potential to do something to create a better world and how much more could an individual accomplish if they were able to overcome depression and suicidal tendencies?
