I preface the sharing of this with saying Australia is a fantastic place to live and the people are beautiful but there is without a doubt a culture of open racism. I am a white/English as a first language immigrant and I personally have been told I wasnt good enough to nurse people because I am non Australian, that I am just slightly better then a boat person, I put a scarf on my head for one second and had my partner berated for dating a towel head, and when I rode the bus around town I saw some really horrible things said and thrown at Asian people. Its something that breaks my heart and I hope sharing things like this helps give people the courage to stop letting friends or strangers get away with such bad behaviour.
