I previously posted that British Director Steve McQueen made elegant films about disturbing subjects. His latest film is no exception: 12 YEARS A SLAVE, which won a well deserved Oscar for best picture this year. All of the ingredients for success are here: A literate, unsentimental, compelling story of injustice and survival; superb performances from its leading and supporting cast which, in another year, may have resulted in 2 more acting Oscars in addition to the one it did win for Best Supporting Actress. Excellent direction, perfect pacing and impeccable editing. Photography marked by the clear and painterly composition Mr. McQueen is noted for. A pretty flawless film, in my humble opinion. Congrats to everyone involved in the effort. Next up for me: INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS by the Coen Brothers. Enjoy the movies! Rock On!
