I pride myself on being a fairly sociable chap who takes an interest in (most aspects of) peoples lives. However this morning I experienced what every business traveller dreads.....the over friendly taxi driver! The problem with the over friendly taxi driver is that he is incapable of reading the signs that indicate a passenger wants nothing more than to sit quietly gathering his thoughts before an intensive day begins. And so he begins with a chirpy cawld-the-day! (Roughly translated to good morning sir I am about to make an innocuous comment about the weather which if you answer even out of politeness gives me the green light to chew your ear off and then charge you twenty five quid for the pleasure). Sharing a car with a complete stranger is one thing, but sharing every sordid detail of his last trip to Bangkok is quite another. On the plus side I do now have a comprehensive understanding of how to get from Pyongyang to Phuket for £1.75 and I have a fool proof 10 step process for spotting if the woman youre about to buy a drink for is actually a ladyboy! Im sure thatll come in very handy as I travel the eastcoast mainline to London this morning!
