I probably had not listened to Elton Johns 11-17-70 album since before I picked up playing bass in high school. I recently heard a track on XM Sirius, deciding I need to get that album again. It was a live radio broadcast on that date, years before EJ became a superstar. Trio only - piano, bass & drums, no guitar. Wow! What an incredible performance! And after playing bass & with bands for 40 years, I notice SOOO much more than before as I listened the whole CD through on a nice drive. EJ, bassist Dee Murray, and drummer Nigel Olsen all reveal aspects of their musical personalities here that youll never hear in the strictly-composed, highly-produced studio albums aimed at making a collection of hits.
