I probably should just keep my mouth shut. BUT....I gotta be me ! In defense of the all legitimate, responsible, in it for the dogs and not the money breeders of Papillons out there... This group has given them a little bit of a beating about the perfect dog. Any breeder worth their salt is breeding their dogs to match as closely as possible the breed standard, for looks, TEMPERAMENT AND HEALTH !!! Yes I did mean to capitalize !!! I am positive that 100% of this type of breeder will tell you the perfect dog does not and never will exist. It is an ideal to strive for. Weighing the dogs strong points and seeing the faults (even in there own dogs) is what a good breeder SHOULD BE DOING. A breeder saying the dogs nose is too long is not an insult but an observation. Looks is important. Its what makes Papillons look like Papillons and not Bernese Mtn Dogs. And I am sure I do not just speak for myself when I say part of my decision to own a Pap is because they are cute ! Conformation (how the dog is put together) is important for both looks and health reasons. I chose a Pap because of size and athletic ability. Conformation is important as thats what allows her to hike and climb and slog around in the mud but be small enough to sit on my lap. I would also bet a months worth of paychecks that reputable breeders consider TEMPERAMENT AND HEALTH more important than looks. The standard reads. Temperament: Happy, alert and friendly. Neither shy nor aggressive. A gorgeous Pap that bites is not exhibiting true Papillon type. Breeding the two most winning show dogs does not give you a littler of show puppies. There will be show prospects and pet puppies in each litter. It does not make the pet puppies any less worthy. A reputable breeder will place those pet pups as carefully as the place their show prospects. I could go on but I think you get my point. To the WONDERFUL, HARD WORKING, SELF SACRIFICING, LOOSING MONEY BY THE BUCKET FULL breeders out there.....I salute you and thank you for making and keeping the Papillon one of the most wonderful breeds out there I apologize in advance for anyone that is insulted. I also will resign from this group if asked. The opinion above is all mine !
