I provide a luxury service and sometimes my clients are not very nice, or interesting. Money doesnt have much to do with those attributes. Tonight I cooked a last-minute (meaning the call came 10 pm last night) dinner for twelve, and it was just a delightful evening. Youngish artists, journalists, designers, dancers, a publisher, even a hair stylist to the stars, from seven different countries. I made a rather exotic menu and they were all genuinely interested in everything. The apartment was the top floor of a 17th century former private home a stones throw from the Seine. Usually I think I dont like modern art, but the owner is an artist and she has very interesting style that worked well in the old rooms. Plus she had a great kitchen for Paris. I think my favorite thing was that she paneled her toilet room inside and out with black slate, and provided colored chalk for amusement. A Brazilian designer made a beautiful but suggestive eye-mouth outside. Of course, in my rush to get there on time I forgot my camera. My favorite thing about my job, besides loving to cook, is that it is never boring. Had an offer to do a pop-up restaurant in Cannes this spring. Not sure Im up for it. Want to come help me Jean-O? Just 20 for lunch, 20 for dinner. Possibly on a yacht. Yes, last time I got sea-sick but Im ready to face the challenge again!
