I put a lot of humor and jokes and goof off on here, but I need to be serious for a second. Heres a LEGIT tidbit for people... LEGIT that people who shop, not just on Black Friday, but anywhere, need to be aware of. There is a lot of psychology in work behind these sales and it does sadden me each and every year that theres people who are willing to commit ACTS OF VIOLENCE others for their own materialistic desires. The Scarcity Effect as I talked with Dr. Zelos about on one of my podcasts a while back. People want what they cant have. If they put only a limited amount of Laptop is on sale for 200 bucks, there are two things in play here. Number one: the laptop is WORTH 200 bucks, because no store will ever LOSE money in a sale. A laptop that is worth 200 dollars, 99.9% of the time is crap with refurbished parts that will likely die on or function horribly. Same goes for one of those 200 dollar 50 inch TVs. Number two: if you go to Black Friday and they run out of the LIMITED (scarce) 200 dollar Laptops, are you gonna go home? Chances are, you wont. The strategy behind doorbusters is NOT NOT NOT a retailer being charitable and trying to get you a great product at a greatly reduced rate, its to entice a large group to visit the retailer to get you INTO the store, so that you can buy one of their OTHER products. You missed the 200 dollar laptop, but hey... weve got 400 dollar ones over here in stock! Great! 90% of these are NOT marked down at all. What they do is they show you the highest allowed retail price with a percentage knocked off (likely in big big letters), making it LOOK like youre getting a deal but its really closer to what you pay normally. You can find most of these products in other places for the same price or even less if you go online. But the fact remains: even if you get a deal, you arent saving that much money. No retail store is ever going to sacrifice a profit. Im 100% shooting here. Use resources like Groupon and Ebay and find deals that way. Take care of yourself and each other. Your family will appreciate the extra time spent with them than the extra time spent barreling over others in a store, camping and/or waiting in ridiculously long lines. I mean come on... get real.
