I put myself through college working in a restaurant for two - TopicsExpress

I put myself through college working in a restaurant for two years. The tips made it possible for me to bank my pay checks. Ever since then, I have always made it a point to tip generously -- because I know how hard waiters and waitresses and busboys work to give you a clean table and an enjoyable meal. In those days, the minimum wage actually allowed you to stay out of poverty. Today, wages have not kept pace. The minimum wage should be $15 to give families a chance at a decent quality of life. Would prices go up a little? Maybe. But wed suddenly have a lot more taxpayers sharing the burden, wed have a lot more consumers able to buy goods, generating a lot more jobs for everyone. Thats why the fifties and sixties worked so well. This is in response to those phony Christians who stiffed a gay waiter. Hes taken the high road, refusing to say anything. But the viral response has been heartwarming on the issue of their hypocrisy. But more than that, I think we also need to recognize how important tips can be to those who depend on them.
