I put on light jacket and ventured out on a short walk. A cool breeze ran its fingers through my hair as I silently strolled down the sidewalks, listening to a church bell toll a sweet, but kind of sad version of Silent Night. Very few cars passed me as I continued to walk in the dark. The moon had a hazy glow from the clouds that were slowly covering it up for the night. Few of the houses I passed still had their Christmas lights twinkling. As I listened to the bittersweet bells playing Silent Night... I thought how appropriate it was.... for it was truly a Silent Night. I thought about all the people in their homes with their families... with stuffed tummies and all kinds of new gifts and gadgets to play with. As I walked down the street I passed a man who looked lost and homeless. He walked passed me with a look of despair. I have become quite attune to that look. I see it a lot now-a-days. I turned and smiled and said, Merry Christmas... Surprised, he turned around and his face brightened up and he smiled a beautiful smile. My dad always told me that sometimes just a smile will change someones whole day. As I turned to continue down my path.... I said a little prayer for him. It is so easy to get caught up in all the fun of Christmas, all the gifts, the food and the family get-togethers. We tend to forget about those who have nobody, because its easier not to think about it. It doesnt make us feel so guilty when we turn the other direction and think of something else. Please take a moment tonight.... this silent, beautiful night and say a little prayer for those who didnt have such a good Christmas. Just because you dont always see them... doesnt mean they are not there. Merry Christmas and small note.... If you want to give Jesus a gift this year.... he told us what he wants...
