I put up a post at the beginning of the week about a van of islanders that were at the warehouse and their usage of there back window as a urinal. Well through the help of all of you looking out for the description I have of the car, the workers work for thornhill horticultural contracting Ltd and the van has the rego WH4728. Well I have just got off the fone to Richard whom I texted earlier this week after the incident. He has singled out the individuals and the actual man that was urinating and they had a huge meeting with the liaison officer as the men involved do not speak English, they are Samoan, and his excuse was that he was busting. But as I said to Richard there are tiolets in the whare so that didnt wear well with me. Anyways the guys village in Samoa was destroyed by a tsunami and they have nothing and they live very very poorly so in his brain he was doing what he thought was ok.....he was also taken to speak with the people that import these workers and that person took him back to Richard with a remorseful apology in tears. Richard was prepare to send him back home but he has been reassured there will no longer be any problems from ANY of his workers and he sat all 46 Samoan workers down and laid the rules out. The problem with this man if he is sent home he will have out shame apon his village people and would suffer in alsorts of ways. Richard offered me an meeting with the man to tell him how I felt and how we in NZ live but I after hearing that this guy was just plan dumb didnt want to out anymore pressure on him. He has been chastised enough and is very very aware of his mistake. Richard is very grateful for the complaint because they dont see how the men behave outside work and he said it was a good educational experience for his as an employee to address living standards.....so if you ever cross a van with seasonal workers that have been bought in to the country and you see them doing something very wrong do not hesitate to make a complaint because not only do we need to make the complaint the employer and employee need to be educated about unseen behaviours. A very good outcome :)
