I ran away. Right out the front screen door which slammed shut - TopicsExpress

I ran away. Right out the front screen door which slammed shut behind me - and into the middle of the street without checking. Angered by my cousin, Carmel, getting her way based on a lie about me - though my Grandma tried to keep me safe by calling out to me to continue on across to see Mary Holmes. It was a Saturday morning, begun peaceful and filled with plans to meet up with Uncle Danny to go fishing out in the Sound by noon for the Sunday gathering. Instead, I left the world for the railroad tracks and the collection of glass that I could convert to nickels and a ticket to The Paramount Theater matinee. The lady at the Woolworth Fountain, now long since dead surely, smiled at me and gave me a ticket - though I really didnt have enough Barqs bottles for one. I was probably 11 years old, I suppose, and can still feel the red velvet ropes leading me to the seats in the empty room as the lights dimmed for the show after I presented the token ~ 1975. youtu.be/3iKN2klFN1E
