I rarely wonder how politicians choose their references. Today is different. One acting minister was indicted. Of course he shifted the blame to the judicial system. The interesting comparison he chose to make was with Burkina Faso. The press took hold of the metaphor: “From Victoria Palace to Burkina Faso” posted on a leading newscaster. The funny part is that in the local language Burkina Faso means:“Land of the honest people”. I remembered he comes from the party that coined the phrase: “Common Sense Revolution” (“Revoluția bunului simț”). This so called revolution propelled a new breed of politician: the entertainer-politician. Such an elected official would have little responsibilities aside from cracking wise jokes. So if a minister has funny things to say he can be under judicial investigation, he will get public support from the prime minister before the trail is over, he will get support after the trail as well. This is the Common Sense Revolution for you. This is Burkina Faso!
