I re-read my post on the Buy Nothing Project, and I think it came out as more hostile than I intended (which is to say, its hostile, and I didnt want it to be). I apologize. My intent was not to attack the group, but to explain why I chose to leave (though I was admittedly not a member for very long). One thing in particular that many people pointed out was that I didnt talk about the community aspect of the group. Its not just about acquiring and getting rid of items; its about getting to know your neighbors. I think thats a great thing to do, and Im glad that the group has brought happiness to many people. I would be interested in meeting the many neighbors that I have who live south of 85th St, and I wish that the site didnt prohibit me from meeting them, but that doesnt mean the group shouldnt exist; it just means that it isnt my cup of tea.
