I read a LOT about the World War II era. I also studied it in college. The more I read about The Holocaust, the more I suspect that the estimate that six million Jewish people were killed is a low estimate. (I am not referring to the five million non-Jewish people the Nazis massacred, as well. That, too, may be a low estimate.) It seems to me that there were, quite likely, many more. There were many cases in which the denizens of occupied areas used Nazi occupation as an excuse to act on their own long-held anti-Semitic passions. In those areas, I think the totals may run much higher than previously thought because local and national governments have prevented full investigation. If you have read a book or magazine article, or seen a documentary, which explores this topic, please direct me toward it.
