I read a story earlier on I Am Dixie Hwy. of a family searching for a new church. They had basically been publicly embarrassed at their last place of worship and if I remember the story correctly, had been out of church for more than a year. I read many encouraging posts from people from different churches, advertising a judgement-free environment, in an attempt to attract this family. I was pleased. But in the thread, I read one post, that was subsequently removed, about how the church should distance themselves from the sinful-world and that there was too much sin in the church already. I was stunned! The purpose of the local church is not to procure a sterile, christian-only environment, but to equip Christians for service. (Ephesians 4:11) Nowhere in scripture does it command or suggest that the church curse the darkness that the lost are live their lives and are absorbed in. On the contrary, Gods word tells us to shine the light. Ask yourself these painful questions: -Does the church you attend construct its services, events, ministries and fellowships for Christians only? -Do people who visit your church understand Gods love and beautiful plan for them when they leave your service? -Is your evangelism effort amount to a courtesy invitation for salvation at the close of the service, or are you passionately praying for, and genuinely pursuing and embracing people who are not like you? -How many non or new believers attend your church? -Would you describe your church as a museum for Christians or a hospital for the broken, wounded, hurting and dying? We live in a very different day than we did just a few short years back. Evil and darkness are devouring people at an exponential rate and God is raising up a church who will be one of compassion and mercy. NOT BLIND GRACE, but the grace that Jesus himself offered Zacchaeus, the Woman at the Well, the blind man, the thief on the cross...and me... Patrick Bissig! Life Church Louisville Loves and I am thankful for the many other churches in our community who do, too! https://youtube/watch?v=1APw1Ux9w4M&feature=share
