I read in one of my political articles the other day, how we hear the term conservative values, but we almost never hear liberal values, in particular in our media. Of course that gives the impression liberals have no values, and are simply evil. So I think we all should embrace the term liberal values, trying to insert it into our posts. A few include: 1.) Work should pay enough to lift us out of poverty, not barely enough to pay the utilities, but no rent, food, or other expenses. 2.) Hunger and homelessness should not be a factor, in the richest country on the globe. We need to work first to eradicate it here in the U.S., then work on the rest of the world. 3.) Jobs in America, are more important than trade in the world. Liberal values would include not negotiating or honoring trade agreements that are unfavorable to American labor. 4.) Full employment, should be a goal, of liberal values. By whatever method, returning clean manufacturing to America, or creating jobs to help fix our sagging infrastructure, or preferably a combination of both, we need to set about creating full employment, at a living wage. 5.) Freedom is still important--spying need only be done on people whove brought a reason to be suspicious. 6.) People should be free to drink beer, smoke cigarettes, smoke pot, or do what they want in their own homes, at least. There might be some disagreement, but this is a victimless, or at the most a self-victimizing group of crimes. 7.) We need to stay out of wars that are none of our business, and the Defense budgets need to be combined, have one department, and start using it for defense. We only enter into wars when were directly threatened as a land mass. Why did 9/11 occur? Because we were not doing that, we were not using our Department of Defense to defend. 8.) Health care is a liberal value. We need to get a single payer system for everyone. Sadly, the biggest hole, mostly due to conservative moves (not values for sure), by our Supreme Court, have made the poorest still out of luck, when it comes to health care. 9.) If we cant fix someone up with a job, as above, a basic income of some kind needs to be paid, food provided, and assurances to at least get someone a bed to sleep in. 10.) And at least for the foreseeable future, mainly because its going to take that long, we need to bring back higher taxes on the richest people in our land, both by wealth, and income. And they need to kick in at least above $80,000 a year, as to not affect the 80 percent of our population, and increase dramatically, much as the income and wealth do, the higher up the wealth chart we get. Exponentially is the word. 11.) Corporations are not people, my friends. They are large, parasitic organizations, that leech off our society, and they need to be taxed properly, and regulated, and if they screw up, penalized. Huge corporations, banks, pharmaceuticals, whatever need to be broken up. And they should not in any way be allowed to influence the political systems of this country. Corporate needs are not human needs, at least not all of them. These are just a few, add more if you like.
