I read the Wall Street Journal daily looking for the section which periodically tells of homes and restoration projects (although the average example usually runs in the multi-millions) But while the WSJ prides itself on accuracy in reporting and considers itself the pinnacle of accurate and pedantic reporting, I constantly find mistakes with regard to architecture and thus once again urge readers to check and research what they read. Yesterdays article discussed a Victorian house in process of restoration ...built in 1915.(Vicky died in 1901) How absurd! It discussed another restoration of a 19th C. Victorian and showed a picture which was clearly a Prairie School, four square!. It discussed a 900 sq. ft. log cabin which had been disassembled and reconstructed elsewhere... the move only cost a million or so(!) which allowed them to decorate those 900 sq. ft. for just a few hundred thousand! They did say that they hid the new light switches, which I found admirable and that a couple of rooms were actually unwired on purpose to retain the authenticity. Dining by candle light offers romance and ambiance in any age. Just make sure there is plenty of light in the kitchen.
