I read the glorious book of Joshua this morning, marveling at the victories God granted Joshua and the Israelites. It makes me sad to think that in the very next book—Judges—all that triumph is turned to tragedy by the failings of God’s people. How quickly we may fall—from the mountain of our triumph to the valley of tragedy—if we are not careful. Here is a thought for you this snow-bound Sunday, PHC family; hold tightly to the spiritual gains you have made in the past year. The enemy is eager to engineer your fall from victory. Redouble your resolve to maintain a faithful walk with the Lord. Stay in the Word; be faithful in church attendance; walk in prayerful communion with God moment by moment; seek to win the lost to Christ; find your place of service and ministry for the Lord and pour yourself into it. Don’t allow the devil even a foothold in your life. You are a solider for the Lord, dear friend; be a good one! Fight the good fight of the faith. Don’t rely on yesterday’s victories to carry you today; don’t let your guard down. Make the year ahead the best ever. God stands ready; are you? Consider: • “Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully” (2 John 1:8). • “Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:13-14).
