I read this earlier today and thought that I would share it with our viewing audience: I added my own opinion of course. The Author is Oliver Sacks: Topic: Perception & Meditation... Perception, like a camera lens, is a filter that can enlarge, distort or enhance a scene, altering our sense of reality. If were unable to examine that lens or acknowledge our subjectivity, we become its prisoners, blindly reacting to people and situations. Sometimes we go even further and surround ourselves with people who share our particular warped lens, mistakenly believing their consensus proves our lopsided assumptions correct. Our perceptions reflect core beliefs because our unique experiences and backgrounds always color them. Yet with an open mind and heart, we can extend our initial impressions to find a more balanced, informed version of the truth. True perception, therefore, is a process rather than a fixed state. Meditation clears the grime from our lens and sets us on the path to enlightenment. Only through the humility of continually asking questions such as, What if Im wrong? What am I missing here? can we begin to have a new experience of living in and interacting with the world. Those of us in recovery should always check our perception and meditate on the positive aspects of life. Have a good day. Anita Bradley
