I read this piece earlier today and really felt for the child! His mum had the best of intentions (as we all do), to support her child in establishing a new routine and good homework habits. For many children, being organized and remembering everything they need is not easy and we need to understand that more time, support and empathy may be required. Perhaps this mum was optimistic with her timeline and didnt realize that her child might need more time to establish his homework habit, and by setting a pretty dazzling reward for what may have been a lofty goal, she may have put herself a few steps behind where she started. For some great tips about how to avoid homework horrors, check out our downloadable publication. theparentpractice/publications-download/39-doing-away-with-homework-horrors.html We will send a free copy of the publication to the first 10 people to like this post. parenting.blogs.nytimes/2014/09/02/homework-and-consequences/?smid=tw-NYTMotherlode&seid=auto
