I read this post today on my friend, Ron Youngs page. If you dont know, Ron is the lead vocalist for Little Caesar, and something of a rock and roll sage. Everyday I hear people in music talking about the state of music, why rock music is dying as a viable or commercial art form and what it whos to blame. Well you are using the weapon that is the killer. From around 1957-1967...the glory days of the evolution and proliferation of what lead to a couple of monumental decades that inspired millions of kids to play music. They all pined in garages and listened to what the band down the street or in another town, or what they heard on the radio, or what Dad brought home from a business trip, where doing and it inspired greater and greater growth in music. It inspired thoughts on love, politics, social change and counter culture. It was the only voice and outlet for emotions, feelings and energy in a world controlled by conservative media outlets. So when the Internet and Social Media came along, there was a new outlet for people to be heard, to hear, and to see what formerly our imagination and yearnings could only find in music. No longer did we need to seek it from the churning of our musical messengers and messiahs...because we now had ways to congregate, communicate, coagulate that previously only music gave us in its infancy and glory days. As soon as we had video games, uploadable videos we could personally create and share and ways to hear words that only songs could previous tell, to hear voices, words and thoughts we could relate to, only previously said by music, its started to get dilute, diffuse, ineffective, narrow and passé. So if you want to know why and if its happening, ask yourself if without Facebook to hear this kind of rant, rather than hearing these concepts from I Cant Get No Satisfaction while hiding under your bedsheets listening to an AM radio to do it, you actually have a hand in its slow death.
