I read this with tears in my eyes. How many people actually relate - TopicsExpress

I read this with tears in my eyes. How many people actually relate to depression seriously? After years of surviving as a seriously depressed person ( In my much later years diagnosed with extreme bi-polar depression) I can honestly say that the only reason I am alive today is that I loved my child more than I wanted to die. Every case of depression is profoundly different from any other. But had my illness been different, this could have been me. The serious question to me is how often is misunderstanding of a depressed person at fault for their actions? How do we, as a society resolve this? How do we as a race of people become more humane, and see what ( quite often) even the person with the illness does not? How can we help? My heart aches for this Mother and her children, for their families and for a Society that constantly puts Mental Illness on a back burner because "Certain things are not acceptable" to the supposed normal population?
