I realise I have been talking a lot about death recently, hardly the fun image I usually try and portray here but for obvious reasons it has been on my mind. Of course, people die all the time and of course they pass away on cruise ships as well. And it has me thinking, why not live it up in the lap of luxury in your last days. Why settle for a hospice or a sitting in a small retirement apartment on your own, when you could have cocktails on tap, cabin stewards to pamper you and friendly Guest Services people in the lobby to telephone if they need of a chat? Checking in on a cruise ship to check out from life must be rather like going to God’s first class waiting room. I will be here with you today and then off tomorrow and Wednesday. Tomorrow the family start arriving from all over for Dads funeral on Wednesday and I will be back with you again as normal on Thursday and with no more morbid talk. It has though I must admit been somewhat therapeutic to write about Dad here and I thank you all for listening to me. I can still see Dad’s image in photos, but the conversation has stopped, it’s his voice I can’t seem to remember. I only hope my tribute to him at his funeral will do this great man justice. My Dad was strict but fair with me and I know my morals and the way I live my life is based on his teachings. If I was cheeky or if I did something terrible like put packets of Pop Rocks in my sister’s cat’s litter tray then the back of my legs would be stinging and carry a print of his hand for some hours afterwards. Some people say it is wrong to discipline our children, and since parents have been following such advice, children have started to rule inside and outside their homes. I was disciplined at home when I was a child and through that I learned respect or at least I like to think I did. I understand that there is a huge distinction between discipline of course but ……………..well you know what I mean I think. If my 4 and half year old daughter Kye is naughty we would consider grounding her and keeping her in her room as punishment. But then again, in the ridiculous nanny world we live in how long before grounding a naughty kid is classed as wrongful imprisonment? Anyway, I thank you again for all your friendship and I will have news and photos in the hours ahead today cheers
