I realize that the passing of a Hollywood celebrity is not necessarily considered political....or appropriate....to post in this group, but, at times, there are exceptions. Todays passing of actress POLLY BERGEN in Connecticut at the age of 84 most definitely has liberal political significance. In addition to her more recent television roles in THE SOPRANOS and DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, Ms. Bergen had an impressive film career as well. One of her more notable roles was in the 1964 film KISSES FOR MY PRESIDENT, in which she starred with FRED MACMURRAY as the first woman to be elected as the President of the United States! Not only was it a pretty cool film, but I would say that it was just a wee-bit ahead of its time and, in fact, was one of the actress favorite rolls. She always thought a woman president in real life was long overdue, said her longtime manager, Jan McCormack. But the political angle doesnt end there! Bergen was a lifelong liberal, ardent feminist.....and supporter of Hillary Rodham Clinton. She tirelessly campaigned door-to-door for Clintons presidential candidacy in 2008! Shes already being remembered as one of Hollywoods truly great actresses.
