I realize that there is frustration with the way that things have been up to this point, but I ask for your patience and understanding as we try to work at making the system better for everyone - it has taken years to get to this point its going to take time to turn it around. It is no secret that we are in debt, and I say we because this is all of our responsibility - Understand that we get what we get from the government (which isnt nearly enough) and we have to spread that around to help 300+ households and families, roads, schools, renos, sewer garbage, water, emergencies, power, oil, equipment repairs, wages for staff who try to keep up with the many jobs required to keep things going... Every department gets an amount that they are required to spend on ONLY specific items listed by AANDC, if you spend it on anything not on the list then they deduct that from your next payment - I truely believe that if the membership is given the full information about funding and how it is allotted within the Band - they would stop blaming the Band and start laying blame where it belongs, in the hands of a government who has done nothing to help treaty people since the day Beardy and other Chiefs signed these documents... FYI the number one reason we are in debt is because there is no rent being collected from the Band houses built by CMHC - they want us to collect $375/mo +another $100 for insurance from each member living in these houses - if we dont they wont give us more funding to fix them - the other thing re: renovations/repairs, the Band gets monies to fix only those houses still under mortgage, there is nothing for the older ones... Also, contrary to popular belief there is no funding given to any Band for urban people, most do what they can, if they can... Accountability has to come from everyone we need to work together to make a better future - Before you start swearing at your relatives and finger pointing, ask yourself if you believe one family is no more important than another, or if one childs safety and well being more important than anothers...? We will do what we can with what we have, but we ask for your patience and faith that we are doing what you voted us in for, and that is working for the greater good of the people... it is our first week - dont give up on us already Hiy Hiy
