I realized this scene from Last Samurai well-sketches the notion of the martial arts by Musashi Miyamoto. One ought not to try to foresee the opponents movement, nor to respond to the movement when it occurs. Rather, one has got to just pre-know the whole situation. Opponents, atmosphere, breaths, winds, sounds... and the body is supposed to move automatically. And what Musashi found from his own mastery in swords was we need to move first not to fight in the first place. That was the ultimate invincibility for him.
