I really did not appreciate the discussion here that mocked those teens that spoke at council - not because they were teens - but because they were merely citizens speaking out. During the fire pits war, I remember being asked to speak to a Girl Scouts group about it. They wanted then to go speak and asked my advice. I said, be thoughtful, honest, clear and direct - and have fun. They brought down the house. Did I coach them? By some definition maybe - but they had an opinion already. Its not fair to judge motivation. And even if people are coached, its still tough to get up there and cut loose. Judge the words and ideas; not what you perceive as intent. We all have a voice. I never could have gotten up there as a teen - and so ill always respect the act if not always the words. Sidebar - in terms of respecting public speakers, Id like to remind joe shaw that the berating, bullying and haranguing of speakers he disagreed with over the years was infamous - and there is plenty of video to back that up. As well, burying his nose in his computer, ignoring speakers, leaving the room when it suited him, sneering, taunting, insulting, harrumphing, blocking voters on Facebook that challenged him- the examples he set in dealing with the public was intolerant, narrow minded and flat out unctuous. For him to criticize others is not just laughable, it is offensive. Two wrongs do not make a right.
