I really dont know the ethical line here, or where ones responsibilities lie. Charlie Hebdo is going to publish an edition featuring cartoons of the prophet Muhammad - likely to be offensive to devout Muslims. Likelyl to be inflammatory to religious extremists. On the one hand, publishing this issue seems an appropriate way to show their refusal to be silenced by terrorists. On the other hand, publishing offensive images will deeply upset the vast majority of Muslims, who are NOT jihadists, but even more problematic, what if it leads to more violence against innocent people? No one is responsible for the actions of another. Thats true. But if you were pretty certain your actions might be so inflammatory it might cause unstable people to lash out and kill others, would you refrain? Or would it be wrong not to publish out of fear this might happen? To choose to be silent? Is that giving in to terrorists?
