I really dont know what the deal is. For the past two weeks, Ive had more instances of coming up to an intersection where I have a stop sign as the cross traffic does not. Time after time Ill arrive at my stop sign prior to the cross traffic and then they will stop as if they have a stop sign & I will look at them like well WTF?..... At this point one of three things will happen. 1) they will politely wave me on for some reason. While Im grumbling about possibly getting creamed from the traffic coming the other way. 2) they will politely or impatiently wave me on. Meanwhile cross traffic from the other direction is approaching the intersection that has no stop sign for them. Im looking at that traffic and my helpful yet ignorant driver waving me on is looking at me like Im an idiot. At this point I either floor it leaving them wondering why Im such a jerk or I will allow cross traffic to continue from the other direction. Of course this does nothing 2 put a light bulb over their head that wow those people just ran our stop sign oh wait we dont have a stop sign duh. No instead, exasperated, throwing their hands up in the air... they go as if Im a idiot. Even though they are pissed because I didnt want to get everybody coming from every direction killed. 3. They will wave me on and I will stare at them like what? And I will mouth at them you dont have a stop sign which depending on their ability to read lips might be interpreted as Im a f****** idiot! help me!, I dont know what Im doing just go please just go! Send help!. So I will stubbornly stare at them waiting for them to go and they will continue to frantically wave me on until finally, with much exasperation and disgust, they go (and Im very good at reading lips) as they mouth something is very much like you f****** moron! Learn how to f****** drive f****** get a f****** clue. Its a f****** stop sign you had right away f****** moron! as I sort of impassively watch them finally drive down the road unimpeded as originally intended by the lack of any sign whatsoever telling them that they had to stop. in most of these cases theyre not even on a cell phone. It amazes me how their polite demeanor can go to scathing rage in a matter of 5 seconds.. or at the very least disgusted exasperation. This always seems to put me in a bad mood for about 5 seconds. Because, theres the whole I know Im right and Im rubber youre glue thingy... This happens most often in Deep Ellum, Bishop Arts & target ect parking lots. Especially parking lots considering their random placement of stop signs that only go one direction. And I must say that this does not happen as much as with non-motorists and I know that Im going to get an ass whooping for this . There are certain people on bicycles, that for some reason become traffic cops I guess its the lack of the roof and being out in the open air, but dont come up to a stop sign and decide that you would rather me go before you because Im doing my best to watch out for you and changing the rules all the f****** time isnt going to help . I have many cyclist friends and I understand that there are times when you need to stop to adjust something or if you are a courier respond on your radio or whatever... but please dont do it at an intersection. However if youre adept at this and have fluid motions from years of this career or action, such as Xina Jones and other career couriers, then go for it I trust you. However this is just my opinion, youre going to do what you want to do. And yes cyclists I can understand why you feel the need to direct traffic since Im dealing with the same idiots you are with much less risk to myself...... but still I dont like banged up cars or hurt daughters or injuring anyone on/in bike or car be damned. An intersection is not a place to show diplomacy, leave that for the entrance/exit ramps and parking spaces of the world
